At one time, “Hawkish Joe” Lieberman was flying high above the political horizons. That was way back
in the year 2000. Today, he’s running behind the Anti-Washington candidacy of Howard Dean, the former
Governor of Vermont. In the early primary polls, leading up to the 2004 presidential election, Iowa,
New Hampshire and California surveys have Lieberman running very poorly. This is called, “Pay Back
Time!”
Lieberman’s strident advocacy for the immoral, illegal and totally unnecessary U.S.-led war against
Iraq has turned a lot of grass roots Democrats against him. His pushing of the Homeland Security Act
generated even more resentment among the party faithful. The cost of the Iraq War, and its
occupation, could run into the trillions of dollars. As for the Homeland Security gimmick, America
now resembles an armed fortress. Lieberman’s finger prints are all over these ill-considered laws.
Also, few will ever forget that sickening image of a smirking Lieberman standing beside President
George Bush in the White House Rose Garden, when he signed those two measures into law. Now, it’s the
turn of the rank and file Democrats to let the arrogant Lieberman know how they feel about him and
his offensive cheerleading for the War Party.
Lieberman’s fall has been a fast one. In 2000, however, Al Gore, despite strong opinions to the
contrary, picked him, the junior senator from Connecticut, to be his V.P. Democratic running mate.
Lieberman really added nothing to the presidential ticket. Labor didn’t want him, neither did the
African-American community. Nevertheless, the choice did look good, “on paper.” The future was coming
up roses for one of Zionist kingpin Ariel Sharon’s favorite politicos.
Gore, the supposed country farmer from Tennessee, a pseudo liberal, (who spent most of his life in
Washington, D.C.), was coupled, with a wily Zionist intriguer from the Northeast. All they had to do
was beat the untested Bush-Cheney Gang in the general election. They came so close, but, alas, the
controversial Florida vote outcome did them in. Sorry!
Gore, mercifully, retreated from the public arena. Lieberman went back to the Knesset to cry his load
off. Oh, I’m sorry! I mean the Senate. He’s serving yet another six year term. A lot of people think
Lieberman should switch to the Republican Party, since he has shamelessly aped the reactionary
politics of Bush. He claims, “I’m an independent Democrat.”
Lieberman did get even with the voters for rejecting him at the polls. He pushed the draconian “USA
Patriot Act “on them. He also made sure that it passed in the middle of the night, (without a public
hearing), thanks, also, to his windbag of a crony in the House, Rep. Tom Lantos (D-CA).
This is the same hypocritical Lieberman, who regularly blathers on to the voters about “our values
being at stake” in the coming election. What values is he ranting about? Is selling out to the War
Party a value? Huh?
Ironies abound! If Gore had picked the respected Sen. Bob Graham (D-FL), instead of Lieberman for his
VP slot, the Democrats would have easily carried Florida and the electoral vote. But, the Wire
Pullers got greedy! They wanted one of their own in the No. 2 spot. I suppose they were thinking of
insurance, just in case Gore got out of line.
So, instead of a Democratic victory, in 2000, and a 12 year stranglehold on the White House by the
boy-ohs, extending back to the Bill Clinton’s two terms, “Little Bush,” took over the White House.
The rest, as they say, is history. Most, sadly, has been a bloody and expensive one.
It has been all downhill, too, for the overly pious Lieberman, since he pushed so hard for the Iraq
War. The body bags of our brave military personnel killed in that conflict, continue to arrive at the
Dover, Delaware Air Force base. People are remembering that it was Lieberman who railed so zealously
for instant combat. The Iraq War belongs as much to the fanatical Lieberman, as it does to
Bush-Cheney, and that clique of ultra Chicken Hawks, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and Condoleeza
Rice.
Lieberman insisted that the war with Iraq was absolutely essential to our national security, and that
the WMD in that country must be destroyed. He lied! When Lieberman’s critics point out to him that no
WMD have be found in Iraq, he responds by claiming that, “The world is a safer place without Saddam
Hussein.” Safer for whom, Joe? Your buddy, Sharon?
The energetic Dean has been very successful in raising money on the Internet and enrolling thousands
of volunteers into his growing, presidential campaign. Lieberman’s reaction is to say Dean is going
“nowhere in 2004." In the New Hampshire poll, Lieberman, who has all the personality of a mannequin,
came in at a mere 6 percent. Ouch!
Time cures all. “Hawkish Joe” Lieberman is, finally, getting his wings clipped. It couldn’t have
happened to a more deserving predator.
