Algerian president conducts cabinet reshuffle

Algiers (UNA-OIC) – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Tuesday conducted a cabinet reshuffle, according to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic carried by Algeria Press Service (APS).

The new government, led by Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad, is the second one to be announced since President Tebboune took office after winning the presidential elections in December 2019.

Tebboune appointed Abdelmadjid Attar, who served as CEO of Sonatrach – the national state-owned oil company of Algeria – between 1997-1999, as the new energy minister in the cabinet reshuffle to replace Mohamed Arkab.

Algeria, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), produced 820,000 barrels per day last May, in line with its OPEC+ quota, according to the latest S&P Global Platts survey of the alliance.
