Bahrain mourns death of Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa

Manama (UNA-OIC) – Bahrain’s Royal Court has mourned Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who passed away Wednesday morning at Mayo Clinic Hospital in the United States.

In a statement carried by Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the royal court outlined that the burial ceremony will take place after the repatriation of the body, and the funeral will be limited to a number of relatives.

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ordered the announcement of week-long official mourning, during which flags will be flown at half-mast, the statement said, adding that government ministries and departments will be closed for three days as of Thursday.

Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa was born on 24 November 1935 and grew up in the care of his father Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, ruler of Bahrain from 1942 to 1961. He was appointed Chairman of the State Council on 19 January 1970 and served as prime minister since 15 August 1971.
