N’Djamena (UNA-OIC) – Chadian President Idriss Déby Itno died on Tuesday from wounds sustained in anti-rebel battles in the north of the country.
Army spokesman General Azem Bermandoa Agouna said in a statement carried by the state TV that the President of the Republic, Idriss Deby, died today on the battlefield, defending the unity and safety of Chad.
Déby’s death came a day after the electoral commission announced his winning of the sixth consecutive term with 79.3 percent of the vote, according to provisional election results.
