COVID-19: Brazil has 67,900 deaths, 1 million cured

Brazil has reported 1,713,160 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 67,964 deaths from the disease. The number of recovered cases has crossed the 1-million threshold, as per the latest official figures, released Wednesday (Jul. 8).

In 24 hours, 1,223 deaths were added to the statistics. There are also 4,105 deaths under investigation, 44,571 new cases diagnosed, and 624,695 patients infected with the novel coronavirus.

In a press conference, health officials showed the evolution of the pandemic in the country, pointing at a stability in the death curve and an increase in the curve of confirmed cases.

States

Of the 27 Brazilian states, São Paulo (16,788), Rio de Janeiro (10,970), Ceará (6,665), Pernambuco (5,323), and Pará (5,169) have the highest death toll. Mato Grosso do Sul (134), Tocantins (233), Roraima (386), Acre (404), and Santa Catarina (432) have the lowest amount of fatal cases.
