COVID-19 remains real threat, Indonesian President warns

Jakarta (UNA-OIC) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) cautioned that COVID-19 was still a real threat despite the bed occupancy ratio at hospitals and isolation rooms having decreased.

Hence, President Jokowi, through his statement on his Instagram social media account @jokowi, monitored here on Monday, reminded all parties to work together to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19.

“The bed occupancy rate at hospitals had decreased, with patients being treated in self-isolation rooms also decreasing. However, the pandemic is not over. COVID-19 is still a real threat,” the president remarked.

The president asserted that doctors, nurses, and other health workers still had to continue their fight against the disease. “Meanwhile, me, you, all of us, still have to follow strict health protocols,” he affirmed.

The head of state advised the public that by wearing masks, maintaining distance, and avoiding crowds, all can protect themselves, their families, and the environment, as well as helping reduce the burden of handling COVID-19 by doctors, nurses, and health workers.

Based on the latest data from the COVID-19 Task Force, active cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia as of Sunday, 22 August, had reached 306,760.

Consequently, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia from March 2020 to August 22, 2021, reached 3,979,456, with 3,546,324 people having recovered and 126,372 people having succumbed to the disease.
