Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan hold meeting on filling and operating Renaissance Dam

Cairo (UNA-OIC) – Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan held a meeting on Monday to discuss the rules for filling and operating the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

According to Egypt’s State Information Service, the Egyptian delegation expressed, at the outset of the meeting, their readiness to resume negotiations on the basis of the outcomes of the mini-African summit held on July 21, as well as the outcomes of the ministerial meeting on August 3, which provides for negotiating a binding agreement on the rules for filling and operating the Nile dam.

In the context of Sudan’s request to delay the meetings by one week to complete internal consultation in view of the recent developments in the negotiations, and the exchanged of correspondence between the parties participating in the talks regarding changing the negotiation agenda, it was agreed to adjourn the meeting for a week, provided that the ministers must consult to set the agenda and level of participation in the next meeting.
