Egypt voices solidarity with Sudan following Nile dam collapse

Cairo (UNA-OIC) – Egypt on Sunday expressed solidarity with Sudan following the collapse of a dam in Sudan’s Blue Nile State, where hundreds of homes were destroyed or flooded this week.

“Egypt stands by Sudan which faces the reflections of this incident, just out of brotherly bonds between the two peoples of the Nile River, historical ties and the shared destiny of both nations,” Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The dam, which held five million cubic meters of water, collapsed last Thursday in the District of Bout in the southeastern state, destroying more than 600 homes and flooding others, local media reports.
