EU pledges additional €9 million support to teacher training program in Sudan

Khartoum (UNA-OIC) – The European Union has announced the completion of a 4 million euros worth program of teacher training in Sudan.

The program was implemented by Expertise France in partnership with France Education International, under the patronage of Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

To guarantee the sustainability of the outcome, Head of Delegation of the EU to Sudan Ambassador Robert van den Dool announced €9 million in additional support to the program for a three-year teacher training teachers starting from 1 June 2021, according to an EU statement.

Referring to the importance of education as a basic human right and the lack of the resources allocated for education by the Sudanese government, the EU official called for the allocation of more resources for Sudan’s education budget to enable the country to meet the international standards and provide quality education across the East African nation.
