WHO chief hails UAE’s support for programs to combat diseases in poor communities

Abu Dhabi (UNA-OIC) – Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received here on Saturday Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
During the meeting, held at Al Shati Palace, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Dr. Ghebreyesus discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and WHO, in a way that will contribute to achieving their shared goals and serving targeted communities.
The Director-General briefed the Crown Prince on the WHO’s efforts and its regional and international activities aimed at eliminating communicable diseases. He also updated him on the steps to combat the spread of COVID-19, in collaboration with the international community.
Ghebreyesus praised Sheikh Mohamed’s support and his health and humanitarian initiatives, including the Emirates Polio Campaign, the “Reaching the Last Mile Fund” to “End River Blindness” and the efforts to eradicate Guinea worm disease (GWD), all directed to boosting WHO’s programs to combat and eliminate diseases, especially in the poorest communities.
