ICESCO launches support program for museums affected by COVID-19 closures

Rabat (UNA-OIC) – The Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) launched its support program for 30 museums affected by the closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic to assist museums in the Islamic world.
ICESCO published on its website a registration form for the administrations of the museums to fill-out and submit if they wish to be part of the program. Administrations must send the applications by post to the following address: Avenue des F.A.R., Hay Ryad, B.P. 2275, C.P. 10104, Rabat, Morocco, or by e-mail to the following two addresses: [email protected] / [email protected]. The applicants must send the files through the National Commissions of ICESCO Member States.
ICESCO Director-General Dr. Salim M. AlMalik announced that the Organization will allocate $1 million to restore the collections of 30 museums in the Islamic world, which had been affected by the various crises.
AlMalik made the announcement during the celebration of the Week of Museums (September 26 – October 2) and the Day of Heritage in Islamic World on September 25.
He also called on countries, governmental institutions, and relevant parties to continue their role, during and after the COVID-19 crisis, in taking the necessary measures to reopen museum institutions and raise public awareness on the importance of museum conservation.
