Iraq wants to use pledges made at Kuwait donor conference to battle COVID-19

Baghdad (UNA-OIC) – Iraqi and World Bank officials on Wednesday discussed how to benefit from funds raised at Kuwait pledging conference to help Iraq confront the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Minister of Planning Khalid Battal discussed in a videoconference with representatives of the World Bank and donor countries how to use the pledges made at the 2018 conference to support cash-strapped Iraq fight the pandemic, a ministry statement said, adding that the minister also called for quick action to boost response against the virus.

The World Bank officials said the bank was ready to support Iraq address the financial problems as well as fighting the pandemic coupled with reconstruction.

The two sides called for improving the financial management, developing digital skills in the educational sector, developing social protection systems and creating jobs.
