Geneva (UNA-OIC) – Kuwait on Tuesday stressed that the Israeli occupation’s implementation of its plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank and impose sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and northern Dead Sea regions is provocative, aggressive and illegal.
This came in Kuwait’s speech delivered by Permanent Representative to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim, to the UN Human Rights Council, in the 43rd session of the Council, which resumed on Monday after a three-month hiatus, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Al-Ghunaim affirmed that the Israeli decision violates the legitimate and historical rights of the Palestinian people and is contrary to the relevant international resolutions.
He expressed Kuwait’s strong condemnation of these Israeli intentions as they a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, stressing that the Israeli plans would undermine the international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The Kuwaiti diplomat reaffirmed his county’s support to the Palestinian people and their just issues, adding that the Palestinian cause will remain Kuwait’s top priority. He also voiced Kuwait’s strong condemnation of all flagrant violations of international human rights and humanitarian law committed by the Israeli occupation authorities, especially the acts of killings, land confiscation, house demolitions, and other violations.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Al-Ghunaim added that Kuwait calls on the international community to initiate an emergency process to help the Palestinians to face the economic and social repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
