Amman (UNA-OIC) – Jordan, along with representatives of four Mediterranean countries, on Wednesday, worked closely on the development of an ICT Mediterranean platform for UNESCO cultural heritage under the EU-funded iHERITAGE project.
Convening online for the project’s 2nd Steering Committee Meeting, hosted by the project’s Portuguese partner the University of Algarve, participants from Jordan, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Egypt discussed the obstacles and the benchmark progress of the iHERITAGE project, and agreed on the further activation of the Living Labs, which will introduce and highlight the changes new ICT technologies will make and transform the cultural and tourism sectors in the Mediterranean region.
Participants also tackled various pending issues such as the potential project promotion in online events held in each of the participating countries, and the establishment of spin-offs.
A statement on Thursday by the Jordan Society for Scientific Research, Entrepreneurship, and Creativity (JSSREC) indicated that the project would be of great benefit for the ancient city of Petra in terms of embedding innovative technologies to promote tourism.
The iHERITAGE project is set to make numerous positive changes and offers significant benefits for people of various backgrounds in terms of enhanced accessibility to UNESCO world heritage sites, the creation of multiple job opportunities as well as the direct integration of researches among universities, researchers and SMEs into the world of ICT and cultural heritage.
