Lebanese army announces killing of two soldiers in Minieh gun attack

Beirut (UNA-OIC) – The Lebanese army announced the killing of two soldiers after gunmen in a car opened fire on an army post in the country’s north, triggering a shootout, in which one of the assailants was also killed while others fled to an unknown destination.

“On 9/27/2020, around 1:00 pm, terrorists driving a car opened fire on guards at one of the army points in Arman locality – Minieh, where the officers responded to the source of fire,” the Lebanese Army Command’s Orientation Directorate said Sunday in a statement.

The shootout resulted in the martyrdom of two soldiers, the killing of a large number of terrorists, and the escape of others to an unknown destination, the statement added, pointing out that a military operation is underway to arrest the fugitives and uncover the circumstances of the attack.

The attack, which occurred late on Sunday, comes amid an ongoing operation to locate a cell involved in the recent killing of four Lebanese soldiers and three other people.
