Mauritania begins deportation of 210 illegal migrants to their countries

Nouâdhibou (UNA-OIC) – Mauritania’s security authorities on Saturday evening began deporting 210 illegal migrants of different African nationalities who were heading to Europe.

Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) quoted a security source as saying that the illegal migrants were detained in two groups – the first group of 108 persons was intercepted in the Atlantic Ocean coming from Senegal on their way to Europe, while the second group of 102 migrants was arrested in Nouâdhibou, a town located in northwestern Mauritania, as they were preparing to leave for Europe.

It is noteworthy that during the past weeks, hundreds of irregular migrants were detained in the Atlantic Ocean on their way to Europe, as part of the efforts made by the Mauritanian security authorities to combat illegal migration.
