Mauritania signs agreement to develop green hydrogen production plant

Nouakchott (UNA-OIC) – The Mauritanian government signed here on Friday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Australian Renewable Energy Development Company, CWP Global, to develop a green hydrogen production plant with a capacity of 30 GW.

The Mauritanian Ministry of Oil, which signed the agreement with the company, stated that the MoU paves the way for the start of the development work of what will be the largest renewable energy project in the world, with the aim of exporting green hydrogen and its derivatives to global markets. It added that the new project, which bears the name “Aman”, has an area of ​​8,500 square kilometers and is located in the north of the country.

“This project will require billions of dollars and a lot of painstaking work, but it will change the face of Mauritania economically and will open many horizons,” said Minister of Petroleum, Energy and Minerals Abdel Salam Ould Mohamed Saleh.

For his part, CWP Founder and Chairman Mark Crandall affirmed that the project will have a significant impact on the Mauritanian economy, generating billions of dollars in revenue, providing inexpensive electricity and water, and boosting the economy.
