Mauritanian President receives German Parliamentary State Secretary

Nouakchott (UNA-OIC) – Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani met here on Wednesday evening with the Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Defense Ministry, Thomas Silberhorn.

After the meeting, Silberhorn told Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) that Germany and Mauritania have strong and long-standing cooperation ties. He noted that his visit coincides with Mauritania’s Presidency of the Group of Five Sahel (G5 Sahel) countries and Germany’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“We pay great attention to coordination between the two parties whenever we have the opportunity to do so, and our cooperation is focused on the priorities of our partners in the Sahel at the local level, as well as in the regional framework within the Group of Sahel countries,” said the German official.

Silberhorn affirmed Germany’s readiness to contribute to the development of the G5 Sahel countries. He also underscored the EU’s intention to expand its cooperation with the group to include bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
