How does a person schooled as a constitutional lawyer and a Noble Peace laureate reconcile with a daily schedule that has his finger on the trigger hunting and executing people?
The process is known as a "kill list" and requires this person to single-handedly be a judge, jury and executioner in deciding who to wipe off the face of the earth!
This person is none other than America’s first black president, Barack Obama, whose killer-role has been the subject of sensational disclosures in the New York Times.
Though these revelations jar with Obama’s past as a liberal law professor, it is clear that this bizarre operation involves more than 100 members of his national security team.
In addition to the supervisory role of the Pentagon, Obama also chairs meetings in the White House Situation Room with senior security advisers before making the final decision about who is to be killed – all on his own.
Strangely but perhaps equally bizarre is the fact that when Obama was awarded the Peace Prize in December 2009, he had authorised more drone strikes than George W Bush during his entire presidency.
Daniel Bates in London’s Daily Mail reports that the US president requests his advisers draw up "baseball cards" with pictures and biographies that he pores over to see who should live and who should die.
"As part of the bizarre ‘nomination’ process, he then retires for personal reflection to work out whether or not to order a drone strike against them."
The result of his arbitrary orders to kill without due process has and continues to cause enormous pain and suffering for families of his victims in many regions of Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Victims include fellow-American citizens who are hounded as so-called "terrorists" for exercising their right to resist the US empire’s discredited policy unfairly targeting Muslims in the main.
Apart from the extra-judicial killing of Osama bin Laden, whose death at the hands of Obama’s cold-blooded death squad has become a morbid celebration by White House junkies, the US president has also come under fire for ordering the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen living in Yemen.
That Obama has remained committed to what is euphemistically referred to as "Israel’s security", and the free-flow of arms and deadly weapons of mass destruction (WMD) to the apartheid state, makes him complicit in the denial of human rights and severe oppression faced by Palestinians.
Amid this terror campaign by the "leader of the free world" comes the shocking news that South Africa’s opposition, the Democratic Alliance (DA), who hold the premiership of the Western Cape, has decided to honour Obama by awarding him the freedom of Cape Town!
Sad too in light of the fact that the DA move is a gross display of total disregard for tenets they continually remind the ANC-government to be mindful of: the rule of law!
For the Western Cape’s Muslim population its a smack in the face for it is widely known that most if not all would be opposed to US military adventures in Muslim lands.
They in concert with the rest of their fellow-believers would also be vehemently against Obama’s default position on Islam that is evident in his reluctance to de-link from the notorious military control of Egypt despite a popular revolution that toppled his ally Hosni Mubarak!
Likewise his unjudicious role in manipulating UN resolutions to lead US/NATO bombardment of Libya; his arming and backing of dictatorships in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to retain power by crushing civil rights movements; and his illegal unilateral sanctions on Iran has not endeared him to Muslims desirous of living freely and in dignity.
Will the DA and its leadership realise that their intemperate decision is an affront to Muslims or will they continue regardless of the deeply ingrained pain caused by Obama as an assassin extraordinary?
