OIC calls for resuming Ethiopian Renaissance Dam negotiations

OIC calls for resuming Ethiopian Renaissance Dam negotiations

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) emphasized the importance of maintaining food security for Egypt and Sudan.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the General Secretariat rejected any measure that would affect the rights of all parties along the Nile waters. It also stressed the need to resume negotiations between the concerned parties in order to reach a fair agreement that preserves their interests.

The OIC statement comes against the backdrop of Ethiopia’s threat to begin filling the reservoir of its megaproject, known as the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), on the Blue Nile.
