OIC chief reaffirms right of Jerusalemites to participate in Palestinian elections

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen received a phone call from Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash, the Palestinian Chief Justice, and the Palestinian President’s advisor for Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations.

They discussed the latest developments in the occupied Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the escalating attacks of settlers and Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian citizens and their properties. They also addressed the daily violations against the blessed Aqsa Mosque, which could lead to dire consequences. Dr. Al-Habbash also informed the Secretary-General of Palestine position on the right of Jerusalemites to participate in the upcoming elections, requesting the OIC support in this regard.

For his part, Secretary-General Al-Othaimeen indicated that the OIC was following with concern these serious developments. He stressed the OIC’s unwavering support for the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with Al-Quds as its capital.

Al-Othaimeen indicated that the OIC supported holding elections in all parts of the Palestinian territories, including occupied Al-Quds, based on the international resolutions and signed agreements, and the right of Jerusalemites to participate in the elections in terms of presenting candidatures, and engaging in electoral campaigns and voting.
