Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – On International Youth Day celebrated every year on August 12, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) extended his sincere congratulations to young people all over the world, particularly the youth in the Muslim world.
The theme of this year “Youth Engagement for Global Action” gives an opportunity to recognize the importance of youth engagement and participation in political, economic and social life and processes, Al-Othaimeen said in his message on the occasion.
He added that since the beginning of this year, the world is troubled by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put the entire humanity into serious trouble at all levels with expected long-term social, cultural, economic and political impacts on all segments of our societies and most especially on the youth.
The OIC chief went on to say that the engagement of youth at local, national and global levels has proven to be the most indicative way towards the required concerted global action to effectively address the vast majority of challenges that humanity currently faces, such as the COVID-19 outbreak and the fight against radicalization and violence.
“I avail myself of this occasion to express the OIC’s full support to and solidarity with the young people suffering from the occupation in Palestine by the Israeli forces as well as all young people forcibly displaced by the crises and conflicts in the Islamic World,” Al-Othaimeen said.
“The OIC has adopted the Youth Strategy with significant sustainable policies for the empowerment of the youth. The expected long-lasting effects of the Covid-19 pandemic compel me to reiterate my call to all the Member States of the OIC to redouble efforts in implementing the OIC Youth Strategy. The General Secretariat stands ready towards the fulfillment of this endeavor for the sake of youth in the Muslim World,” he concluded.
