Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – On the occasion of the first anniversary of revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called again for abstaining from changing the demographic composition of the disputed region.
Recalling the resolutions of the Islamic Summit and the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) on Jammu and Kashmir, the General Secretariat reaffirmed the OIC’s solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and urged for security operations against the people of Jammu and Kashmir to be halted immediately and for basic human rights to be respected.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the General Secretariat also called for abstention from changing the demographic composition of the disputed territories. It further reiterated its call for the settlement of the conflict in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
It is noteworthy that on 5 August 2019, the Indian government revoked the special status, or limited autonomy, granted under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution to Jammu and Kashmir.
