OIC urges end of violence, resort to dialogue for security and stability in Afghanistan

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has said it is following with great concern the developments of the situation in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued on Friday, the General Secretariat urged all Afghan parties to put an end to violence, implement a permanent ceasefire and speed up negotiations in order to end the conflict in the country.

In light of the critical circumstances that Afghanistan is going through, the General Secretariat also called on all parties to work towards achieving reconciliation and establishment of lasting peace in the country, for the welfare of the Afghan people.

The General Secretariat affirmed the OIC’s keenness and readiness to continue to contribute to the peace, reconciliation and development process in Afghanistan to ensure the return of stability to the war-torn country.

The General Secretariat also renewed the OIC’s firm commitment to supporting the comprehensive peace and reconciliation process led and owned by the Afghan people, in order to achieve comprehensive reconciliation, lasting peace, stability and development within the framework of consensus and national harmony in Afghanistan.

The General Secretariat further recalled relevant decisions and resolutions on Afghanistan adopted by the OIC Summit and meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) as well as the Makkah Declaration issued on 11 July 2018, by the International Ulama Conference on peace and stability in Afghanistan.
