Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the agreement between the Federal Government of Somalia and the leaders of the federal states to conduct the elections based on the agreement of the 17 September 2020.
In this regard, the OIC General Secretariat, which has followed with great interest the recent political developments in Somalia, urged all parties to expedite the implementation of the agreement reached after the National Consultative Electoral Summit held in Mogadishu. It also called on them to adhere to dialogue and consensus, and intensify efforts during the implementation phase to hold elections, which will allow Somalia to channel its efforts and energies towards achieving security, stability, growth, and prosperity for the Somali people.
The OIC General Secretariat reaffirmed that it stands with Somalia at this critical stage to achieve the aspirations of the Somali people.
