Palestinian president receives letter from UN chief regarding call for Mideast peace conference

Ramallah (UNA-OIC) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday received a letter from United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, in which he thanked him for his call for an international Middle East peace conference.

In his letter, Guterres thanked President Abbas for his call for an international peace conference in the Middle East in accordance with UN resolutions and international law, saying the United Nations welcomes all initiatives for international cooperation on a multilateral basis and which may help achieve a just and comprehensive peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

The UN chief affirmed that he will continue his consultations with the UN Security Council members and relevant regional and international actors in order to find the best way forward so as to achieve peace in the Middle East.

He also stressed the commitment of the UN to help the Palestinians and Israelis resolve the conflict on the basis of relevant UN resolutions, multilateral agreements and international law, paving the way for two states living side by side based on the pre-1967 borders.
