Peace negotiation between Sudan government and SPLM-N begins in Juba

Juba (UNA-OIC) – Tut Gulwak, Advisor to South Sudanese President for Security Affairs and Head of South Sudan mediation, announced the completion of arrangements for the start of the direct negotiation round between the Sudanese Transitional Government and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) on Thursday.

The two negotiating parties held a joint meeting on Wednesday in South Sudan’s capital Juba, in the presence of the delegation of the South Sudanese mediation, a member of the Sudan Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and head of the government delegation.

In a press statement, Gulwak said that the opening session of the negotiations was attended by South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit, TSC President Lt. Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan and Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok.

He called on the negotiating parties to work towards achieving peace in light of the current positive atmosphere. He referred to the commitment of all parties to enhancing the peace and stability efforts.

The head of the South Sudanese mediation also indicated that SPLM-N would present a memorandum in Thursday’s session for debate about it by the various committees.
