Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia Ulugbek Maksudov, who also serves as Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), visited today the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), where he was received by UNA Acting Director-General Mohammed Abd Rabbu Al-Yami.

During the visit, Maksudov praised the Union’s role in strengthening international media relations among the OIC Member States, as well as enhancing professional links between media workers.

He stressed his country’s keenness to provide the necessary support to the Union in order to play its role in the media and cultural fields, which will soon culminate in the signing of memoranda of cooperation with Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) and Dunya News.

The Uzbek diplomat indicated that there are many aspects of cooperation with the Union, especially since Uzbekistan has a great cultural heritage that needs a media platform with the size of UNA. He promised to provide all arrangements that would facilitate the achievement of the desired cooperation goals.

For his part, Al-Yami gave a visual presentation about UNA’s vision for the coming years, which revolves around the role of the Union as a major media platform for member states, and the advancement of the media industry based on Islamic and media values that encourage transparency, credibility, tolerance and rejection of racism.

The Acting Director-General also reviewed the role of UNA in providing strategic media consultancy to member countries through representatives of the official national news agencies. He further briefed the ambassador on the training sessions to be held over the coming period, which revolve around Equality and Fair Representation of Women in Media Coverage, Media Language During Disasters and Crises, Data Journalism, Digital Media Initiatives to Confront Epidemics, Managing Newsrooms During Crises and Disasters, and E-publishing Development.
