"Who Needs a Jewish State?" – Inquiring Minds want to Know

I grew up in the Jim Crow South. It was acceptable, even required in many newspapers to trumpet the necessity to preserve segregation. Some of the less polite editorials would even proclaim that America must remain a "White Man’s" country.

And it was those unsavory, early recollections that oozed forth when I read the L. A. Times editorial, " Who needs a Jewish State?" (October 10, 2004) [1].

The query is never truly answered, least ways no non-Jewish proponent is implied.

Truly I am flabbergasted that this degree of racism is sanctioned by the guardians of democracy in the 21st century. To fathom the degree of this transgression simply substitute 2 words in the L. A Times’ editorial.

Replace "Israel" with "America" and "Jewish" with “White” in critical passages.

Regarding a "single, secular state in democratic harmony would not be white, the premise of America is that Whites need and deserve their own state."

Now indulge me one more substitution, "black" for "Arab." That trans-positioning yields this gem:

"The higher black birthrate would make Whites a shrinking minority."

Oh, If I only had a nickel for every time I heard that obscenity dribble from the lips of solid citizens who truly believed themselves and segregation to be on the side of God and all the angels.

And finally:

"America must remain white state, and to do that be a democracy as well, it must have a white majority."

The offensive absurdity becomes obvious with these minor substitutions.

It is good to know that watchdogs of democracy have diminished in neither bark nor bite.
