Postage stamp issued to mark 15th anniversary of Russia as OIC observer state

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) the and the Russian Federation signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) giving approval for the release of Russia’s commemorative postage stamp marking the 15th anniversary of its observer status to the OIC.

The MoU was signed at the OIC General Secretariat headquarters on Monday by Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen and the Russian Federation’s Permanent Representative to the OIC Ambassador Ramazan Abdulatipov.

It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the 2003 Islamic Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where he expressed a desire for Russia to join the OIC. Russia became an OIC observer state in 2005.
