President of Congo-Brazzaville receives head of Libya's Presidential Council

Tripoli (UNA-OIC) – President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso, who is also the chairman of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, met with Head of Libya’s Presidential Council Mohamed al-Manfi and his accompanying delegation, in the capital Brazzaville on Monday.

The meeting addressed the latest political developments in Libya and ways to support the efforts of the Presidential Council for stability and peace in the North African nation.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Nguesso commended the efforts being made by the Presidential Council chairman to support national reconciliation and stability in Libya.

For his part, al-Manfi reiterated the Presidential Council’s commitment to supporting the electoral process in Libya as well as the reconciliation project and the work of the Joint Military Committee (5+5). He called on the AU to provide more effective support for peace and reconciliation efforts in Libya, and to enhance the results of the initiatives of neighboring countries to end the Libyan crisis, stressing the need for coordination between the UN and international partners with the AU to resolve all outstanding issues.

The Presidential Council chairman also called on the African Union to assist Libya in achieving security and stability to reflect on the region and the African continent in general.

Chairman of the Presidential Council Mohamed al-Manfi arrived in Congo-Brazzaville on Monday, for an official two-day visit, at the invitation of President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
