Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi
Cairo (UNA-OIC) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reiterated his country’s principles regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), especially with regard to elaborating a fully-fledged legal agreement between the parties concerned on the rules for filling and operating the dam.
This came during a phone call received by President Sisi from South African counterpart President Cyril Ramaphosa, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, according to Egypt’s Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
The spokesman stated that the telephone conversation dealt with following up the developments of the Ethiopian dam file in the context of what was discussed during the recent African mini-summit.
Sisi stressed the rejection of any unilateral action that would prejudice the rights of Egypt in the waters of the Nile River.
For his part, President Ramaphosa expressed the aspiration for the continuation of intensive coordination between South Africa and Egypt on the issue of the Renaissance Dam, to reach a fair and balanced agreement by all parties on this vital file.
