Protests against omnibus law sparked by disinformation

Jakarta, (UNA-OIC) – President Joko Widodo has said that disinformation and social media hoaxes are to blame for mass demonstrations against the Job Creation Law.
“I saw the demonstration against the Job Creation Law was basically motivated by misinformation about the substance of this law, and hoaxes on social media,” said President Widodo at an online press conference from the Presidential Palace in Bogor on Friday.
He debunked several reports, including those stating that the Provincial Minimum Wage, District Minimum Wage, and Provincial Sectoral Minimum Wage had been scrapped under the new law. Wage provisions will still be regulated under the Job Creation Law, he clarified.
“This (reports on wage provisions) is not true, because the fact is that the Regional Minimum Wage (UMR) is still maintained,” he said.
He firmly refuted reports saying the minimum wage would be calculated by the hour. Under the omnibus law, wages will be regulated based on the time and results obtained by workers, he clarified.
