Saudi Arabia to resume new academic year via distance learning for first 7 weeks

Riyadh (UNA-OIC) – Students of all levels are to resume the new academic year through remote learning for a period of seven weeks as of 30 August 2020 (11 Muharram 1442 AH), Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Education Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sheikh has announced.
In a statement on Saturday evening, the minister said that an exception will be made for university and technical school students with practical curricula who are required to attend courses in person.
He added that the ministry and relevant authorities will assess the situation for the rest of the first term at the end of the seven weeks and see whether to allow students to return to their classrooms.
The decision was taken after coordinated discussions with the relevant authorities as Saudi Arabia is still facing the ramifications of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
