Khartoum (UNA-OIC) – The Sudanese National Committee for the Protection of Civilians and the advance delegation of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) held a meeting here on Tuesday.

The joint meeting, chaired by Sudan’s Minister of Cabinet Affairs Omar Manis, reviewed the plan to protection civilians and the UN support in this connection.

The two sides affirmed their commitment to working for the realization of the protection for all civilians in the western Sudan, after the exit of the UN-African Union Joint Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), whose mandate expires on 31 October 2020. They also assured the necessity for coordination between the concerned circles to achieve the targeted goal.

It is noteworthy that the joint UN-AU peacekeeping force in Darfur will now be replaced by the civilian mission, UNITAMS, aimed at national democratic transition in Sudan.
