Tunis (UNA-OIC) – Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed on Saturday appointed Hichem Mechchi, acting Interior Minister to form a new government.
Hichem Mechichi,47, will succeed Elyes Fakhfakh, who resigned on 15 July over allegations of a conflict of interest weighing on him.
“I will work to form a government that meets the aspirations of all Tunisians and to respond to their legitimate demands,” said Mechichi, who has 30 days to form a government that enjoys the majority support and confidence of the parliament.
Mechichi was appointed on 19 February 2020 as minister of interior in the Fakhfakh government. He has also served as president’s adviser and member of the National Commission of Investigation on Corruption founded in 2011.
