UN refugee chief begins Sudan visit

Khartoum (UNA-OIC) – United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi arrived in Khartoum on Saturday leading a UN delegation for a two-day visit to Sudan.

The trip program includes visits to the eastern Sudanese states of Kassala and Gedaref to inspect the living conditions of the Ethiopian refugee camps on the ground.

Grandi will also meet with Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, Foreign Minister Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, and Interior Minister Ezzedine Al-Sheikh.

The UN official’s visit also aims to review the ongoing arrangements for holding the high-level meeting on sustainable solutions for refugees, displaced persons, returnees and host communities in Sudan and South Sudan, which is an initiative of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in cooperation with the UN Refugee Agency.
