Uzbekistan to host the 65th Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Europe

Samarkand will host the 65th virtual meeting of the UNWTO Commission for Europe. The event will be opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov.

The event scheduled for June 24-25, 2020 in Samarkand is planned to be attended by more than 300 members of delegations from ministries and agencies of tourism and related areas from more than 40 countries A conference jointly with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be held. The event is aimed at discussing the impact of the pandemic on tourism and overcoming its consequences.

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, Chair of the CUE, Minister of Tourism of Greece Harry Theoharis, Regional Director for Europe Alessandra Priante will also address the meeting. The event will include interagency discussions on “COVID-19 response policy”, reports by UNWTO and International Finance Corporation.

The issue of holding the next 66th meeting in full format will also be considered at the event. Uzbekistan is expected to be nominated again as host.
