OIC welcomes political deal between head of Sovereignty Council and Prime Minister in Sudan

Jeddah (UNA-OIC) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the new political agreement signed on Sunday between Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok.

OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha praised the return to the constitutional path, stressing that this agreement represents an important development towards restoring political stability in Sudan and completing the tasks of the democratic transition established by the constitutional document signed on 17 August 2019.

The Secretary-General also appreciated the wisdom of the Sudanese people, as well as the display of the spirit of national responsibility and commitment to dialogue by the political and societal parties, in order to reach solutions conducive to achieving security, peace and prosperity for Sudan and its people.

It is noteworthy that the OIC has been supportive of Sudan and the transitional government since its formation, and it was a witness to the signing of the Political Declaration on 17 August 2019.
